Full-Time and Permanent; 7.33 Hours / Day; 200 Days / Year; 10 Months / Year

Minimum Qualifications

  • Endorsement in the State of Virginia as a reading specialist (masters degree in Reading required)
  • Minimum of at least three years of successful classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of reading was an important responsibility
  • Leadership skills necessary to assist teachers parents and administrators as a
  • Familiarity with reading and writing
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in the field of

Nature of Position

  • Provide professional development coaching and planning focusing on tier 1 reading and writing instruction
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information
  • Designs and delivers instruction for students small groups and / or classes assigned to achieve desired objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum guidelines and shows evidence of lesson preparation upon request of administrator (s)
  • Diagnosis individual group and program needs and plans for the appropriate use of time materials technology and resources to promote the development of critical thinking problem solving and performance skills
  • Evaluates students progress; provides students with specific evaluative feedback; maintains appropriate records and prepares progress information for reports
  • Identifies and communicates specific student performance expectations and documents student learning gains using a variety of appropriate assessment instruments
  • Differentiates instruction to meet diverse student needs
  • Selects evaluates and refines a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies for the active engagement and self-motivation of students and improvement of student learning
  • Implements discipline practices that foster a safe and positive environment for all students and staff
  • Manages classroom procedures to maximize academic learning time in order to motivate students to achieve maximum potential
  • Works collaboratively with other teachers staff administrators parents and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population
  • Takes responsibility for and participates in a meaningful and continuous process of personal professional development
  • Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies
  • Communicates with special education and classroom teachers students student counselors and parents through conferences and other means
  • Participates in curriculum development programs faculty committees and student activity sponsorship as required
  • Provides support for the special education and classroom teachers in relation to the Standards of Learning remediation acceleration and the district curriculum
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school / system policies and practices
  • Models professional moral and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions
