Overview

Are you passionate about building a career in process and machine safety? This is your opportunity to become a key contributor to PepsiCo's innovation engine. You'll work alongside engineers and scientists to shape the future of safety in cutting-edge technologies and processes. PepsiCo is committed to your growth-providing access to internal experts and external training to help you become a certified Functional Safety Engineer (FS Eng) through TÜV Rheinland.

This role is part of the Global Foods R&D organization, embedded within the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team supporting both our Plano R&D and TPC teams in Dallas, Texas. The position is responsible for leading the Machine Safety agenda for PepsiCo Foods North America, working closely with external safety experts who bring deep knowledge of regulations and standards to help develop safety design solutions and remediation plans for process equipment.

As a member of the EHS team, this role also supports PepsiCo R&D through the Management of Change (MOC) process for all new or modified equipment, ensuring compliance with PepsiCo's safety standards. Given our fast-paced environment, the scope of this role includes managing third-party contractors to ensure that risk assessments, remediation activities, and equipment validations are completed thoroughly and properly documented.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the PepsiCo Foods R&D Machine Safety agenda, including both short- and long-term strategies for new and legacy equipment. This includes ownership of the PepsiCo Machine Equipment Safety Standard (MESS).

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for contractors performing machine safety activities such as risk assessments, remediation, and validation. Actively participate in all risk and design reviews.
  • Collaborate with the EHS and project teams to establish machinery safety priorities that align with project timelines and address legacy equipment modifications.
  • Co-lead the Hazardous Energy Control program in partnership with relevant teams.
  • Lead the development of a 5-year capital strategy and manage the annual operating budget for machine safety.
  • Develop strategies to address legacy equipment challenges, including innovative and cost-effective solutions that meet PepsiCo standards.
  • Manage both Capital and Expense dollars related to Machine Safety programs.
  • Build technical knowledge and expertise in process safety to support both core and transformational capability needs, growing into a subject matter expert for Global R&D.
  • Pursue ongoing education to develop expertise in machinery safety design, enhance process safety knowledge, and stay current with applicable government regulations (OSHA / EN-ISO) and consensus standards (ANSI / NFPA). Aim to complete FS Eng. TÜV Rheinland certification if not already obtained.
