Senior Network EngineerChicago, IL – hybrid WFH: days onsite in the loop, days work from home Summary The Senior Cisco Network Engineer works independently and as part of a team that is responsible for the installation, configuration and support of the Cisco network infrastructure. There is an emphasis on Wireless and F load balancing infrastructure, with responsibilities spanning Cisco switch, router, SD-WAN and Internet/MPLS circuits, amongst other areas of networking. The organization is moving to Azure, so any experience with cloud-based networking (routing, and eventually automation as well).
What you'll be doing - Work independently but also work with other personnel to design, implement and support advanced networking.
- Provide technical network integration support encompassing physical planning, configuration, installation and ongoing support of network hardware and software encompassing routers, switches, wireless, load balancers and related components.
- Work on advanced projects to implement new services and features.
- Keep current with network technologies and bring new, documented proposals to management clearly identifying how these proposals can improve the business.
- Lead tasks and projects providing technical direction, coordination, and guidance to other staff.
- Responsible for the monitoring, operations and performance of the network infrastructure.
- Manage and upgrade Internet, MPLS, PP circuits and Cloud connectivity.
- Lead office moves/build outs and hardware refreshes.
- Collaborate with IT Security for firewall management needs.
- Ensure capacity planning is performed, and is proactive in assessing and making recommendations for improvements.
- Review design proposals for technical content – Identify, analyze and evaluate alternative design solutions.
- Solve problems and address issues that were escalated. Utilize packet analysis and network monitoring tools to isolate and resolve issues.
- Define, maintain and ensure adherence to all IT processes and controls to ensure high availability.
- Ensure all systems are documented and administered properly with great attention to detail.
- In concert with the Network Architect, plan and design new networks, establish technical standards, and ensure appropriate interface capabilities with other networks.
- Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate after hours Installation/Service and rotational on-call.
- Participate in business continuity planning and testing of the network infrastructure.
- Participate in cross functional projects including non-network related infrastructure.
Skills we're seeking – core requirements - + years of Network Engineering experience in Cisco environments
- Must have advanced experience in designing, implementing and troubleshooting complex network topologies
- Must have strong experience with Wireless
- Must have experience with F
- Must have experience with Network Monitoring (DNA, Thousand Eyes and/or SolarWinds preferably)
Nice to haves (network engineering is a broad field, but the more experience you have with the following the better):
- Advanced knowledge and strong operating and design experience in the following areas: TCP/IP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, SNMP, MPLS, Multicast, QoS, WCCP, IPSEC L/L, VPN, LAN, MAN, WAN, Optical Networking, Wireless Load Balancing, Network Virtualization, WAN Acceleration
- Cisco IOS, Nexus, IOS XE and Meraki SD-WAN
- VPN infrastructure
- Experience with Cloud Services (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS) – Azure and/or AWS
- Experience with Network Automation (Ansible, Python)
- Experience with Cisco Client and Infoblox DHCP
- Experience with Keysight Vision Packet Broker and packet analysis (Allegro/Wireshark)
- Experience with next gen network and security solutions including SWG, CAB, ZTNA, DLP, SASE (Cisco, Palo Alto, Netskope)
- Relevant Cisco Networking certifications (CCNA, CCNP)
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a related field
