MWRDs Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour.

Required Documents :

• Letter of recommendation from a class instructor professor or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
• Cover letter stating interest in position.
• Resume.

Description :

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) is seeking a motivated student for an internship within the Office of the Board of Commissioners. This role offers hands-on experience in research policy analysis and strategic engagement on key public issues including water infrastructure environmental sustainability climate justice and public health.

This is a unique opportunity for students who are passionate about public service environmental equity and inclusive governance. The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in or has recently completed a degree program in public policy political science law or a related discipline. Strong research writing and analytical skills are essential along with a foundational understanding of government operations and policy development. Effective communication collaboration and a sincere commitment to social justice and community advocacy are also highly valued.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements :

Educational Requirements :

Applicants must be a current graduate or undergraduate student seeking a degree in communications marketing liberal arts sociology political science or history.
