[job_card.job_description]Provide safe care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with professional and hospital standards. Assist in coordination of patient care, collaborating with registered nurses and other health team members. Participate in performance improvement activities. Support during surgical procedures but not as a surgical assistant. Create and maintain asepsis and perform scrubbing duties. Communicate patient information appropriately. Account for all equipment and supplies used in patient care. Communicate effectively with peers, health team members, patients, and visitors. Maintain adaptability and support teamwork within the department and units. Perform clinical preceptor role for scrubbing and follow orientation outline. Maintain cleanliness in unit and care for equipment used during surgical cases. Perform other job duties and responsibilities as required. BLS certification from American Heart Association - Required. Current certification in surgical technology through the NBSTSA - Required. Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination - Required. Clinical operating room experience highly desired : 1 year. Must meet one of the following to practice surgical technology in a health care facility : (a) Successfully completed an accredited educational program for surgical technologists and holds and maintains Surgical Technologist Certification administered by NBSTSA or successor. (b) Completed appropriate training program for surgical technology in US military or Public Health Service. (c) Employed to practice surgical technology in this State prior to January 1, 2008. (d) In service of the federal government performing related duties. Primary Source Verification required. Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to provide patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in preparing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment. Limited access to Medication Rooms; medications should not be handled. Work demands include frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, lifting / moving patients, pushing / pulling up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger / hand dexterity and constant reaching with hands / arms and twisting. Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, infectious materials, communicable diseases, and blood-borne pathogens. Moderate to high noise level in work area. Work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call and / or work weekends / holidays based on department needs.
