Action Against Hunger-USA is part of the Action Against Hunger International network, which provides nutrition-specific humanitarian relief and nutrition-sensitive development assistance in more than 50 countries worldwide. Action Against Hunger-USA, an independent NGO, currently manages operations in eight (8) countries : Kenya, South Sudan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Cambodia, Tanzania, Uganda, and Haiti. Action Against Hunger-USA has more than $60 million in programs and approximately 1,500 permanent team members based in New York City, Washington D.C, Nairobi, and country offices. Additional growth is anticipated.

Evaluation syntheses are an approach used to highlight issues that cut across different evaluations and to address questions using an existing evidence base. Specifically, evaluation synthesis refers to a combination and integration of findings from quality-assessed evaluations to develop higher-level or more comprehensive knowledge and inform policy and strategic decisions.

The synthesis aims to bring together findings from Action Against Hunger’s Evaluations conducted in the last five years, providing learning and generating further evidence on programming, as well as supporting Action Against Hunger in enhancing its approach to programming.

Under overall guidance from the MEL STA, the intern synthesis team’s responsibilities include :

  • Finalize and submit for review the synthesis methodology and protocol for data extraction and analysis.
  • Develop a synthesis matrix; conduct in-depth reviews of the full body of evaluations.
  • Carry out key informants’ interviews; draft the synthesis report for feedback and discussion at an internal virtual validation workshop.
  • Submit the revised draft synthesis to MEL STA and address comments before finalization.

An Internal Reference Group composed of selected stakeholders will be established to review and comment on the draft synthesis report, be available for interviews with the synthesis team, and attend the validation and learning workshop.
