About the team and position

The Network Planning & Scheduling Product team combines Network Design, Network Planning, Order Promising, Fulfillment Scheduling, and Exception Handling tools and capabilities across Logistics and Market Operations business groups. This product space is primarily focused on two key problems : providing high fidelity and feasible delivery promises to customers, and planning, execution, and exception handling of first, middle, and last mile activities and routes.

You will work closely with various internal teams including Logistics Operations, Capacity Planning, Market Operations, Engineering, and Decision Support Sciences (DSS) to define and solve complex problems related to the overall network's ability to fulfill orders successfully. The team is currently focused on improving order promise accuracy and schedule feasibility, centralizing and automating scheduling and exception handling, and continuing to bring Transportation Management System (TMS) capabilities in-house. The ideal candidate should possess strong empathy for customers, a focus on developing scheduling and resource management services, be data-obsessed, and excited about solving recurring problems within the logistics and transportation spaces through sustainable solutions. The team supports a diverse supply of transportation partners to facilitate first, middle, and last mile moves across Carvana’s network, which includes over 150 locations for reconditioning, storage, and transportation of inventory. New products developed by this team will facilitate vehicle movement, improve inventory visibility, and capture backend data to influence future network design and provide reporting metrics.

What you'll be doing

As a Product Manager within Network Planning & Scheduling, you will play a pivotal role in developing and driving the roadmap for critical fulfillment capabilities by participating end-to-end in the product lifecycle, from strategic planning and market analysis to prioritization and delivery. Your primary objective will be to continuously optimize Carvana’s fulfillment operations for speed, cost, and quality by conducting scenario analysis and identifying optimization opportunities across the network.

Your key responsibilities will encompass :

  • Enhancing Schedule Feasibility and Promise Accuracy : You will develop and refine solutions that ensure Carvana's delivery and pickup promises to customers are consistently high-fidelity and feasible. This involves improving the accuracy of underlying data used for scheduling, optimizing operational buffers, and designing systems that account for real-world constraints to reduce delays and enhance customer experience.
  • Automating and Centralizing Network Scheduling & Exception Handling : You will drive initiatives to streamline and automate complex scheduling processes and centralize exception management across first, middle, and last mile operations. This includes building advanced tools for real-time visibility and resolution of operational exceptions, and leveraging technology to reduce manual intervention in scheduling adjustments and issue resolution.
  • Evolving Core Transportation and Planning Systems : A significant part of your role will involve developing and enhancing Carvana’s proprietary transportation management and network planning systems. You will lead efforts to transition capabilities from legacy platforms to new in-house solutions, aiming to improve user experience, reduce operational costs, and increase system efficiency and control.
  • Monitoring and Optimizing Network Performance : You will continuously monitor the health of the fulfillment network in terms of planning, scheduling, and execution. This includes tracking key performance indicators and identifying constraints or inefficiencies that impact the network's ability to operate successfully.
  • Applying Structured Problem-Solving : You will apply structured thinking to analyze existing business processes, identifying opportunities to eliminate complexity and manual efforts by designing and implementing sustainable software products.
  • Driving Product Ownership : You will take full ownership of the products and models under your purview, ensuring they effectively empower Carvana’s operational teams and contribute to a superior customer experience.
  • Translating Requirements and Collaborating with Stakeholders : You will translate complex business needs into clear product requirements and user stories. This requires actively engaging with field-based partners, operational leaders, and various internal teams (e.g., Engineering, DSS) to gain deep insights into their needs and pain points.
  • Delivering Data-Driven Insights : You will source and analyze data from product databases to derive meaningful business insights, and regularly communicate results, trends, and strategic recommendations to stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Exemplifying Product Leadership : You will lead by example, setting a high standard for product management practices and fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • What you should know

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or Computer Science (or other related fields).
  • 2+ years experience in product management.
  • Strong project management skills, and the ability to work cross-functional on complex product areas, managing dependencies.
  • Openness to feedback from all people and parts of the company.
  • A positive outlook, humility, and a healthy sense of humor. Read this again if necessary!
  • Intuitive problem-solving. Understand and think through causal relationships and ripple effects. Confidence in tackling emerging and complex problems.
  • Product sensibility. A student of products with sharp intuition about customers and user experience.
  • Excellence in communication. Ability to collaborate and speak the language of our Operational, Product, Engineering, and Executive teams.
  • Analytical thinking. Capable of the full scope of data-driven decision-making : diving deep to understand the nuances of individual data points, defining illuminating summary statistics and visualizations, crafting simple yet accurate narratives, and employing all of the foregoing to improve our product and business.
  • Intuitive problem-solving. Understand and think through causal relationships and ripple effects. Confidence in tackling emerging and complex problems.
  • Excellence in communication. Ability to collaborate and speak the language of our Operational, Product, Engineering, and Executive teams.
  • What We’ll Offer In Return

  • Full-Time Salary Position with a competitive salary.
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits.
  • 401K with company match.
  • A multitude of perks including student loan payments, discounts on vehicles, benefits for your pets, and much more.
  • A great wellness program to keep you healthy and happy both physically and mentally.
  • Access to opportunities to expand your skillset and share your knowledge with others across the organization.
  • A company culture of promotions from within, with a start-up atmosphere allowing for varied and rapid career development.
  • Legal Stuff
