Position Summary
Reporting to the Program Director, the Outreach Coordinator is considered the "face" of the Beacon program in the community. You will be responsible for recruiting and retaining participants (K-12 students and adults) to ensure we meet our DYCD enrollment targets. This role requires a high-energy individual who can build strong relationships with the host school administration, parents, local businesses, and community leaders to transform the school into a thriving community hub.
Key Responsibilities
1. Recruitment & Community Engagement
- Meet Enrollment Targets: Execute strategies to recruit targeted youth and adult participants annually to meet DYCD contractual requirements.
- School Liaison:Attend school events (PTA meetings, Parent-Teacher Conferences, assemblies) to promote Beacon offerings directly to families and teachers.
- Community Mapping:Build partnerships with local businesses, precincts (NYPD), and other CBOs to create service referral networks for families in need.
- Street Teams: Conduct direct outreach including flyering, tabling at local events, and canvassing the immediate neighborhood to raise program visibility
2. Family & Participant Retention
- Attendance Monitoring:daily monitoring of attendance data; conduct follow-up calls to families of absent participants to improve retention.
- Event Planning:Lead the organization of quarterly "Beacon Night" community events, holiday celebrations, and end-of-summer showcases.
- Advisory Council:Assist in the formation and facilitation of the Beacon Advisory Council (BAC), ensuring community members have a voice in program planning.
3. Administrative & Compliance (DYCD)
- Data Entry:Ensure accurate and timely entry of enrollment forms and attendance intoDYCD online database.
- File Management:Maintain audit-ready participant files, including medical forms, consent forms, and income verification where applicable.
- Marketing:Manage the programs social media presence (Instagram/Facebook) and create monthly newsletters for stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Education, Communications, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experiencein community outreach, youth development, or customer service within an NYC nonprofit setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace.
- Strong public speaking skills and ability to "code-switch" when speaking with school principals vs. youth participants.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of East Flatbush neighborhoods is highly desirable.
- Bilingual (English/Creole) is desired but not mandatory.
- Knowledge ofDYCD Connector similar non-profit case management databases.
- Experience working within a DOE school building or understanding of School Safety protocols.
Clearance Requirements
- Must pass NYC Department of Education (DOE) fingerprinting (PETS).
- Must pass NYS State Central Register (SCR) clearance.
- Staff Exclusion List (SEL) check.
