Airport Information: Minneapolis Saint-Paul Airport
The best airport in Minneapolis to arrive from anywhere in the world is the Minneapolis Saint-Paul Airport (the MSP), which is essentially an impressive mall attached to the large airport. You can get your hair done and buy an entirely new wardrobe just after eating a three-course meal and making a pit-stop at any of the number of bars throughout this location. Approximately 8 minutes away from the VA, this is assuredly your best bet for a travel hub.

About the Facility - Minneapolis VAMC
Minneapolis VA Medical Center is one of the VA's four polytrauma medical centers to care for active-duty service members and Veterans with brain injuries, who are blind, or have had an amputation and maintains a 65,000 square foot center to care for Veterans with spinal cord injuries and disorders. In 2018, 1,289 volunteers donated 189,586 hours to help care for Veterans, the same year that was recorded 980,427 outpatient visits. The main campus provides primary care and specialty health services, including surgery, psychiatry, neurology, cancer treatment (oncology), dentistry, and more.

Surgical Technologist - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)

• The Surgical Technologist is responsible for surgical procedures range from routine to complex high risk or trauma cases. Must be able to circulate the full range of surgical procedures performed in the operating room.
• Provide all basic requirements expected of a Surgical/OR Technologist, from patient pre-op and post-op responsibilities to maintaining cleanliness and inventory of sterile supplies and tools in the OR.
• Transport patients from hospital units to the OR assuring safe transportation of the patient. Screen patients prior to transport to ensure preoperative medications have been given and jewelry, dentures and any prosthetic devices have been removed.
• The Surgical Technologist documents all patient care given and the progress of the patient.
• Provide Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, and Anesthetists during induction and throughout procedure.
• The Surgical Technologist comforts patients fearing surgery. Contact with family and significant others to provide information, counseling, emotional support, alleviate anxiety, fear, and stress concerning patient condition and/or prognosis.

Surgical Technologist - REQUIREMENTS

• Must have a minimum of 1 year experience within the last three years as a certified Surg Tech/OR Tech.
• Must have and maintain certification from NBSTSA as a CST.
• Must have and maintain current BLS certification by the American Heart Association or client standards.
