The Opportunity

As our Associate or Director of Data Science, you will be the primary technical analyst who turns raw property, market, and operational data into actionable insights for the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and Virtú's Investment Committee. You will:

• Be instrumental in designing and implementing the company's data science platform
• Own data‑ingestion pipelines from our data sources using Python/SQL.
• Build statistical models, dashboards, and other ad hoc analyses that inform and drive company strategy around acquisitions, dispositions, asset management, and market selection.
• Translate complex findings into concise narratives and visualizations for senior investment leadership and capital partners.

Key Responsibilities

Examples include developing rent or price forecasting models, geospatial analyses, market grade/ranking, etc.	Drives faster, evidence‑based buy/sell decisions and operational efficiencies.
30%	Data Engineering & Governance – design repeatable ETL pipelines from Yardi, RealPage, CoStar, and other data sources; enforce data‑quality standards.	Ensures analyses and BI dashboards are comprehensive, and reflect trustworthy data.
20 %	Insight Delivery – craft executive‑level presentation decks, self‑service BI dashboards, and memos distilling your analysis and findings into clear recommendations.	Bridges the last‑mile gap between analysis and investment action.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience in a data science role, delivering production analytics or machine learning solutions (real‑estate/finance experience a plus).
• Fluency in Python (pandas, scikit‑learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow) and SQL; comfortable querying and optimizing data pipelines.
• Proven ability to visualize data effectively (Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, etc.) and communicate with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Self starter, with ability to immediately contribute to the design of a data science platform for the company.
• Bachelor's degree in data science, computer science, statistics, economics, engineering, or related quantitative field (Master's degree a plus).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with non-technical stakeholders.

Differentiators

• Prior multifamily underwriting or property‑management‑system exposure (Yardi, Real Page).
• Experience with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions for analytics workflows.
• Geospatial analysis skills – analyzing location‑based data (map layers, drive‑time polygons, census demographics) to spot micro‑market trends.
• Familiarity with vector search / LLM prompt engineering (Azure AI Search, Pinecone).

Reporting Line & Team Structure

• Reports directly to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO).
• Partners daily with Acquisitions, Asset Management, and Portfolio Management.
• May mentor junior analysts as the function scales.

Location & Work Style

• Office Location: San Diego, CA
• Schedule: 5 days per week in office.
• Travel: none expected beyond optional conferences or off‑sites.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary Range: $130,000 - $180,000 (commensurate with experience and skill set)
• Annual Performance Bonus: 10-20% of base salary
