FIRE CAPTAIN - PREVENTION

Overview

The City of Anna is seeking a Fire Inspector to assist the Fire Marshal in overseeing and engaging in the Citys fire prevention, public education, and fire inspection/investigation programs. The goal is the preservation of lives and property within the community as defined in Article 6.01 and Article 6.02 of the Code of Ordinances. Under the direction of the Fire Marshal, this position will oversee and perform fire inspections, review construction plans for code compliance, ensure new and existing construction follows codes and ordinances, determine cause and origin of fires, and attend training sessions. The role may also involve conducting and overseeing plan review, fire permitting, and acceptance testing for all fire protection systems. Other duties may include educating the community on fire safety and first aid procedures, completing special emergency management projects, and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and perform fire inspections and fire investigations under the direction of the Fire Marshal.
• Review construction plans for code compliance and ensure compliance with codes and ordinances for new and existing construction.
• Determine cause and origin of fires and attend training sessions.
• Conduct and oversee plan review, fire permitting, and acceptance testing for all fire protection systems.
• Educate the community on fire safety and first aid procedures.
• Complete special emergency management projects and interface with City employees and citizens.

Qualifications

• Associates degree with course work emphasis in Fire Science, supplemented by 4 years related experience and/or training, and 2 years related management or supervisory experience.
• TCFP Basic Fire Inspector Certificate.
• TCFP Basic Fire Investigator Certification.
• TCFP Plans Examiner 1, deferred up to 1 year.
• Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Peace Officer Certification, deferred up to 2 years.
• Must possess a valid Class C Driver's License.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check and MVR check.
• This position is subject to after-hours callback to conduct fire investigations and may be required to conduct fire inspections outside of normal working hours. Subject to on-call status and may be placed in an on-call rotation.
