JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY :

This RNFA Intern is a perioperative registered nurse who works in a multidisciplinary group consisting of RNFA, PA-C, and NP providers. Through collaboration with the surgeon and the healthcare team members, they learn to achieve optimal patient outcomes while completing the RNFA course. The RNFA Intern will strive to accomplish the necessary skills, knowledge, and judgment necessary to complete their two semesters of classwork along with 200 hours of practice to earn their RNFA certificate. Once newly certified as an RNFA, the incumbent must be employed by GBMC for three (3) years of full-time practice to GBMC post educational and clinical training. Given the high level of investment in training for this role, failure to meet the three-year employment commitment, post certification, would require repayment of 100% GBMC-provided tuition funding. The terms of the repayment agreement will be documented prior to starting in the RNFA Intern job.

Education

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited School of Nursing required

Successful enrollment and subsequent completion of an accredited course in RN First Assisting Program that meets the AORN standards.

Experience

RNFA Intern requires minimum 5 years of diversified Perioperative nursing experience with proficiency in both scrubbing and circulating. Actively enrolled in to complete an accredited course in RN First Assisting Program that meets the AORN standards

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• The RNFA Intern will strive to successfully accomplish the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the RNFA as identified below to become a member of the group
• Advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, surgical interventions, surgical techniques, and surgical hazards relative to operative procedures where in the RNFA assists.
• Advanced knowledge and skill in handling surgical instrumentation, in aiding in exposure, retraction, hemostasis, suctioning, tissue handling including dissecting, suturing, tying, stapling and surgical incision or stab wound.
• Analytical ability to conduct pre-operative and post-operative patient assessment, to evaluate physical and laboratory findings.
• Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with surgical patients and their significant others to enlist their involvement and cooperation in the entire treatment process.
• Ability to perform effectively in stressful and emergency situations with behaviors that are unique to functioning as a first assistant.

Licensures, Certifications

• Current and active RN licensure
• Healthcare Provider (CPR Certification).
• Current CNOR Certification
• CRNFA Certification Required upon completion of the program

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk almost constantly up to ninety (90) percent of work time.

Working Conditions

• Works in surgical suites with exposure to anesthesia gases, lasers and surgical plume, radiation chemicals, blood and body fluids, cleaning solutions, surgical brushes and soap.
