Job Description

Senior Database Engineer

Location : Hybrid, must be based out of the Metro DC area

Clearance : U.S. Citizen; Active DHS clearance

Overview :

InDev is seeking a Senior Database Engineer with 10+ years of experience in data governance with deep expertise in Collibra to design, implement, and manage enterprise-wide data governance frameworks. The candidate must be able to establish and maintain robust metadata, data lineage, and master data management practices while ensuring alignment with organizational policies, standards, and regulatory requirements. The position also demands hands-on experience integrating Collibra with modern data platforms, supporting business users in self-service data discovery, and leveraging automation and AI / ML capabilities to enhance data quality, streamline metadata ingestion, and optimize governance processes.

Job Responsibilities :

Data Governance & Collibra Integration

  • Define, implement, and directly configure data governance frameworks using Collibra.
  • Ensure data cataloging, data lineage, and data stewardship are configured, maintained, and validated within Collibra.
  • Build, customize, and manage Collibra operating models, workflows, and governance assets.
  • Work with business and IT teams to establish data policies, standards, and ownership.

Metadata & Master Data Management (MDM)

  • Design and maintain enterprise metadata models and ensure metadata tagging is implemented and managed hands-on within Collibra.
  • Oversee data classification, business glossaries, and data dictionaries within Collibra.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure consistent and accurate master data across systems.

    • Data Architecture & Strategy

  • Develop and implement data models, standards, and schemas for structured and unstructured data.
  • Define, create, and maintain data sharing policies based on security rules.
  • Develop data integration strategies and support hands-on integration of disparate data sources with governance frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy and security regulations like GDPR, CCPA, and federal standards.

    • Collaboration with Stakeholders

  • Partner with CDO, Data Stewards, Engineers, and Analysts to ensure data usability and trustworthiness.
  • Provide technical guidance on how Collibra integrates with data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, etc.).
  • Train and support business users on self-service data discovery using Collibra.

    • Automation & AI Integration

  • Leverage AI / ML capabilities within Collibra for data quality monitoring and anomaly detection.
  • Build and maintain automated pipelines for metadata ingestion, lineage capture, and governance workflows.

    • Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited college, university, or academic institution in the United States.
  • 10+ years of experience in implementing data governance frameworks with Collibra.
  • Strong knowledge of metadata management, data lineage, and master data management (MDM) practices.
  • Hands-on expertise integrating Collibra with modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, AWS).
  • Solid understanding of data architecture principles, data modeling, and data integration strategies.
  • Familiarity with data privacy and regulatory standards such as GDPR, CCPA, and federal compliance requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and provide guidance on data governance best practices.
  • Experience using AI / ML or automation tools to enhance data quality and streamline governance workflows.

    • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience working in environments requiring DHS Suitability Clearance is highly preferred.
  • Experience building custom Collibra connectors or advanced workflow automations.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture, catalogs, and governance frameworks.
  • Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, including serverless or ingestion services.
  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
