Job Title: School Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse

Duration: 3+ Months(Contract)

Location: Plano, TX 75074

Pay Rate: $35/hr on W2

Shift Schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Mode: Onsite

Job Summary:

• The School Nurse is responsible for tending to the health of all students within the assigned program location(s). This position coordinates student care with parents and/or the Program Director, assists with staff training, meets regularly with therapists and the management team, supervises staff and student examinations, and has ownership for quality assurance reporting.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Overseeing the immediate physical health and safety of staff and students, coordinating outside care as needed.
• Stocking and maintaining first aid supplies.
• Ensuring all disaster supplies are kept current and ready and able to assist in a crisis.
• Monitoring and recording all student illnesses and reporting on frequency, source, duration, and chart trends.
• Ensuring that the application of minor treatment is consistently available and accessible.
• Documenting all contracts and services in the student's chart in accordance with customary medical notations, including immunizations.
• Providing specific examples to students in all areas of personal conduct and appearance.
• Assisting students with diapering, using appropriate materials and disposing properly.
• Providing physician or counselor information regarding student's medication and observed behavior at school.
• Documenting and informing appropriate staff when the health or welfare of students is threatened or poses another crisis.
• Imparting medical care and medications to students properly within the scope of practice as set forth by the state of licensure and practice.
• Providing in-service training and new hire orientation related to the program's medical element.
• Attending meetings and training as required or needed.
• Assisting when asked to maintain good relationships with the community and local agencies.

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in nursing or a closely related field of study. Prior experience working with students preferred. Prior experience working with individuals with autism-related disabilities and/or behavioral challenges preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

• Active licensure in the state of practice as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT), Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN). Ability to successfully complete and carry out training in Crises Intervention techniques.

Language Skills:

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write detailed reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, research abstracts and articles. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of staff members, students, parents, customers, and the public.

Mathematical and Computer Skills:

• Ability to perform math functions and calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to perform more advanced calculations for data analysis such as probabilities and statistical analyses. Ability to develop graphs for proper visual display of data. Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint are required.

Reasoning Ability:

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency and make independent decisions.

Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, see, speak and hear; use hands/fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Employee will be required to run, walk, kneel, lie on floor, reach, twist and assist students in wheelchair transfers.
• The employee may be required to be CPI trained and implement CPI strategies as needed.

Work Environment:

• The work environment for this position is a school setting. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee may be exposed to clients who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, use profanity and sexually explicit phrases, make insulting remarks or threats regarding appearance, age, sex, or race, and exhibit defiance, dishonesty, and assaultive or self-destructive behaviors.
• The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and will be subject to travel (including overnight trips) to support the campuses and the Company's needs. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, but occasionally there is a high noise level. The employee is occasionally exposed to bodily fluids, odors and there is a slight Bloodborne Pathogens risk.
