The Maintenance Training Program Manager is responsible for analyzing needs, designing, delivering, and continuously improving technical training programs for maintenance teams across a multi-site property management portfolio. This role ensures maintenance technicians, supervisors, and managers have the technical skills, safety knowledge, and operational consistency needed to support asset performance, resident satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on maintenance experience combined with strong instructional design and facilitation skills, with a passion for developing talent in a fast-paced property management environment.
Responsibilities
Training Program Development & Delivery :
- Design, develop, and deliver maintenance training programs for new hires and existing team members, including : HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliances, and general facilities maintenancePreventive maintenance programs and work order best practicesSafety, OSHA compliance, and risk mitigationEmergency response and on-call procedures
- Create standardized training materials, including : Instructor-led training contentJob aids, SOPs, and quick reference guidesE-learning and AR / VR modules and micro-learning content
- Facilitate in-person, virtual, and on-the-job training sessions across multiple proprties.
- Work in the Learning Management System (LMS) to administer and manage associated training activities, build learning paths, assign training, track progress, mark attendance, generate and distribute reports, etc. Partner with LMS administrator as needed.
Onboarding & Skill Development :
Support maintenance onboarding programs to ensure new technicians are job-ready and aligned with company standards.Partner with regional and property leadership to identify skill gaps and recommend targeted training solutions.Develop career pathway training for Maintenance Technicians I–III, Lead Technicians, and Maintenance Supervisors.Field Support & Quality Assurance :
Conduct field observations and skills assessments to evaluate training effectiveness and reinforce best practices.Provide coaching and retraining as needed to improve performance, consistency, and safety.Ensure training aligns with manufacturer guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company policies.Collaboration & Continuous Improvement :
Partner with Operations, Risk Management, and Safety teams to align training initiatives with business goals.Stay current on industry trends, new equipment, technology, and regulatory changes impacting maintenance operations.Track training completion, certifications, and performance outcomes to measure effectiveness and ROI.Present to large groups at regional and national meetingsQualifications
Required Experience :
Experience facilitating classroom and virtual learning in a dynamic, engaging mannerProficiency with Articulate 360 (Storyline, Rise), and other development applications is requiredExperience with LMS platforms and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere, Audition) preferredHigh proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to manage multiple projects and programs simultaneouslyCustomer service–oriented, self-motivated, and responsive; able to work independently and collaboratively under deadlinesDemonstrated flexibility, problem-solving skills, and ability to foster teamwork and manage changeRequired Education / Training :
Bachelor’s Degree in HR, adult learning, organizational development, instructional design or related field (preferred)Required Skills and Abilities :
Industry certifications (EPA Universal, HVAC, CPO, OSHA, or equivalent).Experience developing structured training programs or learning curricula.Familiarity with CMMS / work order systems and property management software.Experience creating e-learning or digital training content.Travel 30-40%Salary Range Information
The range displayed on each job posting reflects the targeted base salary for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
