Description

Position Summary: Provide information about museum displays, sell merchandise and provide exceptional guest service.

Duties:

  • Greet and welcome customers
  • Ascertain customer needs and desires
  • Provide information about the museum, displays and history
  • Organize and maintain the museum fashion collection
  • Categorize collection into curation software system
  • Setup new and maintain existing fashion displays onto mannequins and in display cases
  • Research history on existing fashion collection and future acquisitions
  • Assist in merchandising for the retail gift shop, to include purchasing, pricing, inventory, and reordering/restocking
  • Give tours as needed
  • Appear in long form and short form videos for use on social media and YouTube to provide insight into the fashion collection and increase exposure to the museum
  • Describe merchandise and services available
  • Recommend, select and/or help locate or obtain merchandise
  • Answer inquiries pertaining to museum, hotel services, and local attractions and activities.
  • Compute sales prices and total purchases
  • Manage cash drawer and process cash, check and credit card payments
  • Balance revenue at the end of the shift
  • All other duties as assigned
Position Requirements

Education, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Customer service experience preferred
  • Knowledge of antique cars and Fairbanks/Alaska history preferred
  • POS system experience preferred
  • Cash handling experience, to include balancing cash drawer preferred
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service, to include assessing needs, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, to include effectively conveying information to others, and giving full attention to what other people are saying and taking the time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and moving the whole body, to include, but not limited to, standing, sitting, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, twisting, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying; to operate computer equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination; to verbally communicate to exchange information; to see and hear within a reasonable range for a museum environment with or without correction.
