Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit is growing! A well-established and leading real estate tax firm focusing on the appeal of single-family homes and homeowner associations is seeking a full-time Real Estate Tax Associate for our Chicago, IL office. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience researching and filing property tax appeals with the Cook / Collar County Assessor Offices, the Cook County Board of Review, and the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board. KSN supports attorneys who are eager to learn, have a strong work ethic, and practice law with an entrepreneurial spirit. Qualified candidates must be licensed in Illinois and have strong writing and analytical skills.

The starting salary for this position is $105,000, contingent up level of experience. Business hours for this exempt position are 8 : 30am to 4 : 30pm, Monday through Friday. The position requires a minimum of 60-90 days of in-office training. • Duties / Responsibilities :
• Assist with the administration of property tax appeals, including the preparation and timely filing of complaints and supporting evidence at administrative levels and in the Circuit Courts.
• Analyze properties and draft briefs and supporting evidence for residential, income-producing, and owner-occupied properties, including real estate development projects, new construction, building rehabs, and condo conversions.
• Review, interpret, and apply assessment records, assessment histories, and other relevant documentation commonly used in property tax practice.
• Monitor and support complaint preparation for tax objection cases filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County, including court call management and document production.
• Communicate with clients via written and verbal correspondence, summarizing appeal results, providing recommendations, requesting necessary data, and addressing questions regarding pending appeals, new properties, and other matters.
• Liaise with county representatives regarding hearings, scheduling, pending settlements, refunds, and related issues.
• Maintain departmental calendar and docketing.
• Assist with tax incentive and property tax exemption applications as needed.
• Support the Property Tax Department with real estate tax proration matters and other miscellaneous projects.
• Participate in all required Continuing Legal Education (CLE) trainings.
• Perform any other duties as necessary or assigned.
• Qualifications :
