Overview : Overview

The Surgical Assistant II works as a 1st or 2nd assistant to the surgeon and under the direction / supervision of that surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations. The Surgical Assistant works as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team, collaborating with nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.

Education

• Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program required.

Certification / Licensure

Participates in the orientation process for new employees and the educational instruction for the Surgical Assistant student, intern, or extern Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program.

Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program required.

Surgical Assistant license required for appropriate state of practice

Experience

Demonstrates in depth clinical and technical skills in 3 surgical specialties. Participates in departmental improvement efforts to include quality improvement projects, conducting in-services, etc.
