Position Overview This role is for an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse at the Clinical Nurse II level, essential to delivering compassionate, patient-focused care. The position demands advanced clinical skills, specialized certifications, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and excellent outcomes.
Key Responsibilities - Patient Care:
- Coordinate with the healthcare team to provide safe, timely, and equitable care tailored to each patient.
- Perform thorough assessments to identify individual patient needs.
- Create and implement personalized care plans.
- Monitor patient responses to interventions and ensure prompt follow-up.
- Advocate for patients, maintaining their dignity and confidentiality.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by the team and the impact of the care environment on patient progress.
- Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatments, and lifestyle changes.
- Promote evidence-based practices within emergency care.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment following infection control and hospital policies.
- Strictly adhere to aseptic techniques and regulatory standards including OSHA and The Joint Commission guidelines.
- Identify and report safety concerns, actively addressing systemic issues.
- Documentation:
- Accurately record care activities, patient progress, and incidents in the electronic medical record system.
- Professional Development and Leadership:
- Mentor and precept new nurses and students, supporting their growth.
- Engage in continuing education, certifications, and quality improvement projects.
- Serve as a resource and advocate for best practices in the emergency department.
- Perform triage and assume charge nurse or MICN responsibilities as needed.
- Emergency Preparedness:
- Respond decisively and skillfully in critical situations such as cardiac arrest, maintaining composure under pressure.
Qualifications Experience - At least two years as a Registered Nurse in an emergency department or acute care setting; urgent care experience may be considered.
- Proven ability to manage complex clinical cases.
Competencies - Proficient with advanced critical care equipment and technology.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology related to critical care.
- Excellent critical thinking and rapid decision-making skills in high-pressure environments.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members, patients, and families.
Education - Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years of emergency nursing experience may be considered.
Licenses and Certifications - Current Registered Nurse license.
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification or equivalent, to be obtained within 90 days if not already held.
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or equivalent certification preferred.
