Job Description

Our Marine Construction company has an immediate opening for a Mechanic's Helper. Under the direct supervision of the company's Mechanic, the incumbent of this position is responsible for assisting in a wide variety of repair and maintenance work on all types of equipment, including heavy machinery and diesel equipment. Work assignments are initiated by oral instructions. In addition, the incumbent is assigned to perform routine manual laboring work as a member of our marine construction company from time to time. Supervision is not a responsibility of this position. Starting pay based on experience, can discuss in interview. Must be willing to learn on the job and be comfortable working around the water. Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable form of transportation, as our equipment is used all over Hampton Roads at various jobsites.
- Incumbent will assist with basic service maintenance work and in the repair of gasoline and internal combustion engines;
- Tune engines, align brakes, replace water hoses, fan belts, oil seals and minor parts.
- Assists in the repair of excavators, outboard motors, pumps and various other related equipment.
- Load and unload materials and equipment from trucks. May operate a company truck to get to a work site.
- Working knowledge of tools, techniques, and terminology associated with the mechanics trade
- Working knowledge of the accident and safety precautions of the trade
- Ability to perform simple repairs on all types of equipment; ability to diagnose mechanical difficulties
- Ability to follow oral instructions
- Ability to get along well with others; physical strength and agility; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.
Overtime available.
After 90 days employees receive 1 week personal time, with more time being earned after 1 year of employment. Employees are also eligible to sign up for health, dental, and vision benefits if they desire. Contributions to a 401K can be made after 1 year of employment.
