The Assistant Community Center Director supports the mission of The Salvation Army by assisting in the management and development of programs that enhance youth and community well-being at the Dane County Community Center. Coordinates the Youth Mental Health Program.
About the role:
- Assist in managing daily operations of the after-school and summer day camp program including activity planning, staff supervision, and ensuring a safe and supporting environment for youth.
- Supervise Community Center Program Assistant staff and volunteers.
- Plan, develop, and approve lesson plans, enrichment activities, and youth programing for the afterschool and summer day camp programing
- Support the Community Center Director with general administrative tasks, such as record-keeping and scheduling
- Collect data on all programs and program participants. Reports statistics monthly to designated personnel
- Assists in promoting the center’s offerings through social media, flyers, and outreach to local schools and community partners
- Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding updates, child progress, and upcoming events
- Assist in overseeing the scheduling and use of the community center gym and office space by community groups
- Assist in planning and coordinating events held at The Salvation Army Community center such as community meals, fundraisers, and social gatherings.
- Assist in managing event logistics including volunteer coordination, space set up, and ensuring the necessary materials and resources are available
Youth Mental Health Program
- Work with staff to identify and support at-risk youth, ensuring they have access to necessary services and interventions
- Conduct needs assessments and gather feedback from participants to tailor mental health programs and services to the community’s unique needs
- Develop and lead structured SEL activities such as group support sessions, art activities, mindfulness sessions, creative workshops, and recreational activities to enhance mental health and emotional resilience in youth.
- Provide resources and workshops to educate parents and guardians about youth mental health issues, coping strategies and available support
- Prepare regular financial reports for the Community Center Director. Assist in managing funds from grants to ensure the are allocated effectively to support mental health program initiatives.
- Supervise the time and effort tracking of Community Center Program Assistants in regards to the Youth Mental Health program.
- Build relationships with schools, local health agencies, and mental health organization to establish a youth mental health referral network and to broaden the impact of the center’s youth mental health program
- Collect data on the progress and outcomes of the Youth Mental Health program, preparing reports for fundings, leadership, and community stakeholders
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to raise awareness of the program within the community by marketing, developing community partnerships, organizing community events and collaborating with stakeholders
Christmas
- Assist in managing the intake process for families receiving Christmas assistance, ensuring that all necessary forms and information are collected accurately
- Provide training and guidance to social services staff on how to collect relevant family information for the Angel Tree program, such as children’s ages, needs, and gift preferences
- Assists in overseeing the logistics of matching families with the appropriate gifts and resources, ensuring each family receives the correct items
- Assist in building and maintaining relationships with community partners and donors who contribute gifts, ensuring smooth coordination between donation collection and gift distribution.
- Assist in ensuring that all program processes adhere to Salvation Army guidelines and maintain records for financial, gift in kind, and program reporting.
Education: An associate’s degree in human services, recreation, youth development, psychology or related field
Experience: Two to four years of experience in community center operations, program coordination, youth services, or a similar environment.
- Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
Certifications: Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with clearance to drive from TSA insurance. CPR certification through TSA.
