Entry-Level IT Systems Administrator

Opal Foods has an exciting opportunity in our Information Technology Department for an Entry-Level IT Systems Administrator. This position will be based out of one of our Iowa locations either in Hampton or Britt IA.

The Entry-Level IT Systems Administrator supports the maintenance, configuration, and operation of computer systems, networks, and servers. This role assists in ensuring the organization's IT infrastructure is secure, reliable, and meets user needs. The position is ideal for individuals starting their IT career, providing hands-on experience in system administration, troubleshooting, and user support under the guidance of senior IT staff.

Key Responsibilities

• System Support: Assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining desktops, servers, operating systems, and software applications.
• Network Assistance: Support network infrastructure tasks, such as monitoring connectivity and assisting with router, switch, or firewall configurations.
• User Support: Provide technical assistance to end-users, including account setup, password resets, and resolving basic IT issues.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues with guidance from senior administrators.
• Backups: Assist in performing regular data backups and maintaining backup systems to ensure data integrity.
• Security: Help implement basic security measures, such as updating antivirus software and applying system patches.
• Monitoring: Monitor system performance and report issues to senior IT staff for resolution.
• Documentation: Maintain basic documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
• Team Collaboration: Work with IT team members to support technology needs and contribute to IT projects.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent coursework/certifications).
• Experience: 0-2 years of experience in IT support or a related role (internships or coursework projects acceptable).
• Technical Skills:
  • Basic knowledge of Windows (Majority) and/or Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with network fundamentals (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Exposure to virtualization tools (e.g., VMware, RDP) is a plus.
  • Understanding of basic cybersecurity practices.
• Certifications(preferred but not required):
  • CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or CompTIA Security+
  • Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA)
• Soft Skills:
  • Bilingual English and Spanish Preferred
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and follow instructions from senior staff.

Work Environment

• On-site, hybrid, and remote work (depending on organizational needs).
• May require occasional after-hours or weekend work for system maintenance.
• Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 50 lbs) when necessary.
