Job Description Summary :

The Bilingual Junior Ranger Program Coordinator Senior role is for someone who is organized team-oriented passionate about teaching young people proactive with communication and fluent in English and this position you will learn valuable career skills such as leadership communication self-confidence teaching others hands-on skills to care for our public lands including trail maintenance and how to manage a large summer program like the Junior Rangers (an early work experience and nature education program for teens ages 14-17). This is a dynamic job that requires a lot of physical and emotional energy but the rewards are incredible. This job requires the ability to work and hike on and off trail for up to 7 hours in the field in all weather conditions as well as complete office and computer tasks including up to a full 10 hour day in the office.

This is a 40 hr / wk (with occasional opportunity for overtime) approximately 9-month role with an opportunity to return annually / reapply (approximately late February / early March Mid November). Occasional weekend work may be asked of you.

Job Description :

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In the spring after completing training you will primarily focus on connecting with underrepresented communities communities of color and Spanish-speaking communities to promote the Junior Ranger program answer questions and clarify program goals. Together we will attend recruitment events and lead and organize ½ day volunteer Exploration Days so prospective applicants can get hands-on experience with trail work before the summer you will help to manage and support field and trail project operations drive trucks and 15 passenger vans containing youth crew members teach youth important job skills and write public communications for parents of youth employees.

Recruitment & Building Partnerships (40%)

Creatively develop and host outreach and recruitment events to promote the Junior Ranger program to communities that are currently underrepresented in our program (Latinx community specific high schools etc.)

Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders and organizations serving the Latinx community

Attend college and high school career fairs

Lead and organize ½ day volunteer trial days so prospective applicants can get hands-on experience with trail maintenance work before applying

Assist with hiring 90 youth corps members ages 14-17 in March and April

Facilitation and Training (40%)

Lead daily work plan meetings communicate project goals and details ensure safety (physical and mental / emotional) and quality and provide input and feedback for performance evaluations to staffs supervisor.

Occasionally act as a crew lead in the field supporting youth volunteer or contract crews with hands-on spontaneous timely and onsite field solutions(primarily trail work)

Openly share successes and challenges to support team learning and individual growth.

Plan organize schedule and help facilitate a 3-week staff training which includes tool training leadership project management and team development activities for staff team

Support crews in the field by bringing additional tools or gear; and facilitating clear project site navigation orientation & task delegation

Planning (10%)

Actively apply an inclusive and culturally responsive lens to the work of the Junior Ranger program making recommendations for improvements as identified

Assist in designing organizing and scheduling environmental education programs work projects and staff trainings for conservation team for 13 program staff and 90 corps members

Independently perform office and administrative duties including schedules outreach entering data into databases and planning events

Organize timeframes equipment and materials necessary for projects and programs

Reporting & Communications (10%)

Communicate program achievements via website social media newsletters and final report

Assist with recruitment events & materials marketing / advertising record keeping and database management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Ability and desire to work with high schoolers (ages 14-17) and young adults (ages 18).

Ability and desire to work long days outdoors in the summer and complete detailed computer work in the fall / winter / spring.

Ability to work with individuals from diverse ethnic cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in a fair supportive and cooperative manner.

Ability to communicate bilingually read and write in English and Spanish.

Ability to perform risk and hazard analysis and implement proper safety controls; ability to judge weather conditions. Adheres to department and program policies in regard to safety.

Ability to hike carry tools and move heavy objects (such as large rocks) on uneven terrain for extended periods of time in all weather.

Ability to write and speak effectively and courteously to communicate ideas with staff parents community members and volunteers as well as in interviews recruitment events emails newsletters and reports.

Knowledge of and culturally competent understanding of the needs and desires of Spanish-speaking youth and families in the Boulder area.

Knowledge of and compliance with all policies including safety best practices.

Skill in Teamwork - demonstrating interest skill and success in getting groups to learn to work together. Understanding the interests and concerns of others and able and willing to share and receive information. Working effectively as a member and leader of formal and informal teams.

Skills and demonstrated experience and efficiency in Word Excel Outlook and task management software.

Valid drivers license and ability to maintain acceptable motor vehicle record.

Have and maintain acceptable background information including criminal conviction history.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to problem solve and make sound decisions by recognizing needs assessing possible methods to meet needs and acting on solutions.

Ability to customize or differentiate teaching strategies when training new staff including creative one-of-a-kind methods.

Skill in Flexibility and Adaptability - openness to different and new ways of doing things; willingness to modify ones preferred way of doing things. Able to function effectively when directions or priorities change quickly.

Skill in Taking Initiative - Identifying what needs to be done and doing it before being asked or before the situation requires it. Completes work in a timely and consistent manner.

Completed coursework or experience in Diversity and Inclusion Intercultural or Multicultural Studies Hispanic / Latino Studies Natural Resource Management Environmental Studies Youth Development Education or a related field.

Prior experience or training in Mental Health first aid support and referral to a professional.

Wilderness First Responder Certification

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Three (3) years of experience that includes the following :

At least one (1) year of experience working with youth.

At least one (1) year of experience leading volunteers or community service-oriented crews including providing feedback on successes and challenges.

At least one (1) year of experience completing outdoor work tasks in a team environment including lining out tasks and managing conflict resolution.

Three (3) years of experience driving.

Wilderness First Aid & CPR Certification.

High school diploma or equivalent.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Physical and mental effort : Works independently with minimal supervision prioritizes and resolves problems and manages multiple projects; successfully performs in team-oriented ability to perform tasks in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions including lifting standing for long periods carrying heavy tools or large rocks walking on rough terrain and kneeling.

Work environment : Work takes place in both an office setting and field setting with continuous interruptions and background for safety of self and others materials and proper safety precautions to prevent to work some nights and weekends.

Machines and equipment used : Computer cell phone vehicles including 12 passenger vans a range of relevant and appropriate tools and equipment such as hand tools power tools power wheelbarrows and crawlers.
