Job Description

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role

Global Manufacturing Electrical & SDV is looking for innovators who are passionate about tackling meaningful work that will shape the future of the automotive industry. While there will be long days, tough moments, and challenges that push you to grow, you’ll find purpose in your work, flexibility to prioritize your family, and the support of a people-first culture. If you’re ready to grow, thrive, and make an impact, we’d love to hear from you.

WHY:The purpose of this role is to develop and maintain software applications for GM Manufacturing sites, ensuring that vehicles are built and verified correctly across all assembly plants globally. This role involves close collaboration with IT professionals, product engineering teams, electrical hardware engineers, and plant staff to develop innovative solutions that verify and validate electrical systems according to global standards. By working together, these teams enhance all electrical testing processes, empowering operators to efficiently build vehicles, quickly resolve build issues, and consistently achieve first-time electrical quality goals.

WHAT:As a MSAD, you willdevelop, validate, and maintain application software for GM Manufacturing tools and processes.

HOW:Supporting the plants to make it happen for our customers.

The successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Tech Center on a full-time basis. This role requires up to 10% domestic and international travel.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Design, develop, and validate applications supporting all stages of electrical testing, from fluid‑fill stations through full vehicle End‑of‑Line (EOL) testing.

  • Develop, maintain, and debug software applications using C/C++ and other programming languages as needed.

  • Diagnose and root‑cause issues involving vehicle electronic control units (ECUs) using CAN (ISO15765), UDS (ISO14229), and DoIP (ISO13400) serial data protocols.

  • Perform application validation using System Benches, development hardware, and vehicles.

  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure seamless integration between business applications and IT infrastructure.

  • Support system verification, testing, and validation of tools and platforms used by Manufacturing Software.

  • Contribute to a forward‑thinking, innovation‑focused work culture that embraces change and prepares the organization for future challenges.

  • Build strong cross‑functional relationships with software, manufacturing, and program management teams to drive aligned, future‑focused innovation.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Experience in software development (5+ years preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Strong proficiency in C and C++ programming.

  • Proven expertise in software debugging and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to interpret and work with CAN (ISO15765), UDS (ISO14229), and DoIP (ISO13400) serial data protocols.

  • Working knowledge of vehicle electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Understanding of vehicle electrical architectures.

  • Strong technical communication skills in English.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Experience with firmware development.

  • PCB design experience.

  • Familiarity with GitHub, Jira, and version‑control workflows.

  • Experience with End‑of‑Line Assembly Verification systems (e.g., GTS).
