Controller

We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Controller to join our team. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing day-to-day finance operations, payroll, compliance, and reporting, while also helping shape financial strategy through insights and recommendations. The ideal candidate brings professionalism, integrity, and a team-first mindset and thrives in a fast-paced, construction-driven environment. As you know, payroll is a complex role that requires someone confident in managing it.

This is a full-time, exempt role based onsite in Escondido, Monday through Friday from approximately 7 : 00 AM to 3 : 30 PM, with additional hours as needed.

Candidate must reside in North County San Diego or be able to commute daily to Escondido.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead monthly financial reporting, reconciliation, and compliance processes
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
• Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
• Oversee weekly payroll, including prevailing wage requirements, deductions, and benefits reporting
• Manage labor compliance for prevailing wage subcontractors
• Monitor insurance, fringe, and benefits reporting; investigate and resolve discrepancies
• Handle tax filings, audits, and regulatory reporting requirements
• Manage month-end close and year-end financial activities
• Collaborate with HR and Operations on labor planning, reporting, and workforce compliance
• Support accurate job-cost tracking and adjustments
• Oversee asset management and annual reporting tasks
• Supervise payroll / accounting team members and support their development
• Perform other duties as needed to support the business
