Technical Sales & Customer Service
• Act as the primary technical expert on the counter for plumbing, heating, HVAC, and boiler systems
• Assist customers and tradespeople in identifying parts, diagnosing issues, and selecting the correct products for their applications
• Take orders over the counter, answer product questions, and manage customer payments
• Provide prompt, helpful, and professional service to every customer
Troubleshooting
• Diagnose and troubleshoot plumbing, heating, HVAC, and boiler problems brought in by contractors and homeowners
• Interpret fault codes, error messages, and system symptoms across a variety of manufacturers
• Guide customers clearly and patiently through troubleshooting steps, including non-professionals
• Apply safety knowledge and know when to refer work to a licensed professional
Leadership & Team Development
• Mentor and support junior counter sales associates in developing product knowledge and customer service skills
• Stay current on new products, manufacturer updates, and industry codes; share knowledge with the team
• Collaborate with the General Manager on inventory needs and customer product feedback
• Assist with receiving and organizing inventory as needed
Requirements
• 5+ years of experience in plumbing, heating, HVAC, or a related trade (field or counter experience accepted)
• Demonstrated knowledge of plumbing systems, fittings, fixtures, valves, and pipe materials (copper, PVC, PEX, CPVC, cast iron)
• Comprehensive knowledge of hot water and steam boiler systems, components, and controls
• Working knowledge of HVAC systems including forced air furnaces, central A/C, heat pumps, and mini-split systems
• Proven troubleshooting skills across plumbing, heating, HVAC, and boiler systems
• Strong communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts clearly to any audience
• Reliable, dependable, and team-oriented with a strong work ethic
• Comfortable using point-of-sale and inventory management software
• Must be able to keep up with a fast-paced workload
Preferred
• Prior counter sales or wholesale distribution experience
• Leadership or mentoring experience
• Trade license or certification (plumbing, HVAC, or related)
• Familiarity with hydronic heating systems including radiant floor and baseboard applications
• On-site position at our East Orange, NJ store location
• Fast-paced retail and wholesale environment with a community feel
• Frequent standing, walking, and customer interaction throughout the shift
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Overtime required; schedule may vary based on business needs
