Civil Engineer - Entry to Junior Level

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Civil Engineer to join our Savannah office. As part of the Civil Group, the Civil Engineer assists the planning, design and plan production for general civil engineering on a wide variety of projects which may include site civil design, rough & precise grading, dredging, drainage design, utility design (sewer, water, & storm drain).

Duties and responsibilities:

• Assist and supports designs construction projects by studying project concept, architectural drawings, and models
• Assist the preparation of engineering design by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photographs, and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and related topographical and geologic data
• Supports the analysis of project costs by calculating labor, material, and related costs
• Creates feasibility study by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data
• Assist in the production of engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans, and schedules
• Confirms adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress, inspecting construction site, and verifying calculations and placements
• Supports fulfills project requirements by training and guiding operators
• Researches and assists in complying with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions
• Maintains project database by writing computer programs, entering data, and completing backups

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required
• 1-2 years of experience as a civil engineer, preferably with experience in site layout, stormwater, erosion control, utilities, and other infrastructure systems
• AutoCAD proficiency
• Microstation, Civil3D, or SWMM proficiency
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
• Availability and willingness to travel
• All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Preferred education and experience

• EIT Required, PE preferred (or equivalent country certification)
• Master’s in Engineering

Working conditions:

Sedentary for prolonged period of time, interact with clients, and travel occasionally.
