Description :
The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.
This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider's orders.
Dispensing and administering medications is a key responsibility.
The RN assists Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatment of patients.
Nursing and supervisory techniques are applied in the care, treatment, and referrals of inmates / residents.
The RN performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of their education and licensure.
Nursing skills are utilized in the care and treatment of inmates / residents.
The RN attends sick calls with the physician for inmate / resident examinations.
They prepare a list of inmates / residents to be examined and organize the examining room and equipment.
Medication dispensing and documentation are carried out as per applicable policies.
The RN communicates with Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders.
Emergency situations require notifying the Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders.
The RN examines and assesses new inmates / residents with illnesses or injuries.
Referrals to emergency rooms or healthcare facilities occur as required by their condition.
Emergency procedures are performed as needed.
The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel.
Monitoring inmate / resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate is necessary.
Guidance, supervision, and monitoring of nursing care provided by non-licensed staff are essential.
A good working relationship with facility staff and providers is maintained.
Established policies and procedures are utilized for decision-making.
Regular evaluation of medical services aims to prevent inappropriate use.
Absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records must be maintained.
The RN assists with reviewing medical files to ensure documented services.
Monitoring potential catastrophic illnesses closely is required.
Pharmacy use is audited for adherence to formulary as directed.
Compliance with pharmacy laws, especially regarding controlled substances, is mandatory.
Observing and recording inmate / resident behavior is part of the responsibilities.
The medical unit is inspected for items that may be used as contraband.
Health counseling and education are provided on an individual or group basis as required.
Assisting to prepare and maintain various standard records, reports, and logs is necessary.
The RN reads, analyzes, and interprets medical and technical procedures, regulations, and documents.
Processing and responding to lawsuits, and possibly attending court hearings, are part of the role.
Accreditation facilitation of the medical program is supported through approved services.
Safety and accident reports are prepared and disseminated as required by policies.
The RN takes appropriate actions in cases of serious incidents or emergencies.
