Technical Writer II
Position Summary
Technical Writer II leads the development of detailed operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting documentation for complex mechanical systems. This role is ideal for a hands-on mechanic with strong diagnostic experience in electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems who can translate real-world troubleshooting knowledge into clear, accurate technical documentation.
You will support Department of Defense (DoD) and heavy equipment programs by creating practical, technician-focused manuals and procedures based on hands-on system understanding.
What Youll Do
Develop and write technical manuals in accordance with customer specifications (including DoD standards)
Create detailed troubleshooting procedures for electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
Interpret and document wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and pneumatic system layouts
Research system functionality using engineering drawings, OEM documentation, and hands-on evaluation
Collaborate with mechanics, engineers, and subject matter experts to validate procedures
Translate complex diagnostic processes into clear, step-by-step instructions
Review and revise technical content for accuracy, clarity, and compliance
Archive and organize technical data for future projects
Track time spent on tasks and report project status to management
Meet delivery deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Follow and promote safety protocols
Assist with onboarding and mentoring team members as needed
What You Bring
High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in a technical, mechanical, or diesel field or equivalent hands-on experience preferred
35+ years of experience diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty or military equipment
Strong troubleshooting expertise in:
