Intern Economic Development

The New York City Comptrollers Office works to promote the financial health integrity and effectiveness of New York City government in order to strengthen trust secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers and build a more just equitable and resilient city. Led by an independently elected citywide official the comptrollers office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely investing responsibly operating efficiently acting fairly living up to its obligations and promises and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together.

The Bureau of Budget evaluates New York Citys fiscal cash and economic position by analyzing revenue collections expenditures the capital program and the condition of the local economy. The Bureau uses its charter-mandated responsibilities to promote transparency and accountability in financial reporting and addition to reviewing and commenting on the Citys Financial Plan and issuing reports on the Citys cash balances the Bureau oversees an independent actuarial audit to review the assumptions underlying the Citys pension contributions. The Bureau also conducts regular assessments of the Citys economic outlook and revenue performance and strives to lead the dialogue on the Citys fiscal state through reliable and thought-provoking economic and budget research.

The intern will work with the Economic Development Unit.

Responsibilities of the Economic Development intern include but are not limited to:

- Producing both quantitative and qualitative analyses to further the Office of the Comptrollers economic development agenda. They will contribute to in-depth exploration of economic trends in New York City as part of the Comptrollers regular economic spotlights. They may also produce or contribute to policy briefs in-depth policy reports and/or internal memos.
- Perform other duties and assignments as may be required

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: Matriculation at an accredited college. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in college. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree program for the Fall 2026 semester. This position is ideal for college students pursuing majors/minors in the fields of Economics public policy or related fields.

IMPORTANT:
- Our office is located at the David Dinkins Municipal Building 1 Centre Manhattan/New York.
- All interns will work in-person in the office Monday Thursday 28 hours per week.
- The employment period will be from June 1 July 30 2026.

Qualifications :

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
