Key Responsibilities

The Grooming and Training Specialist is essential to providing excellent service and supporting a highly effective team. You will deliver professional quality grooming services with the utmost care and attention for pets and ensure a premium salon experience. Your responsibilities include :

  • People Leadership :

    • Overseeing the development of associates through training, mentoring, and coaching.

  • Facilitating the bather and stylist certification process.
  • Identifying and nurturing talent within the team for stylist training.
  • Monitoring the completion of daily salon tasks.
  • Addressing and resolving associate concerns and grievances.
  • Recognizing and celebrating team achievements to enhance associate engagement.
  • Salon and Customer Experience :

    • Ensuring exceptional pet parent experiences through effective communication and support.

  • Greeting pet parents and addressing their inquiries with helpful recommendations for pet wellness.
  • Promoting salon sales and driving rebookings during checkout interactions.
  • Utilizing salon management tools for scheduling and customer communication.
  • Maintaining salon standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety for all pets.
  • Conducting grooming services and related procedures in compliance with PetSmart standards.
  • Reporting any concerns regarding pet health and safety immediately.
  • Collaborating with the leadership team to share business insights and implement best practices.
  • Assisting with inventory management and supply orders as needed.
  • Engaging in sales of additional services and merchandise to enhance the pet parent experience.
  • May assist in other departments as required.

    • Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years grooming experience; a technical exam may be required.
  • Availability for full-time hours with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficient in grooming tools, equipment, and products for safe use.
  • Basic computer skills for salon management.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to remain composed under pressure and respond effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

    • Physical Demands and Environment

  • This position requires standing, walking, climbing, and using your hands to perform various tasks.
  • Must be able to lift and / or carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally over 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Exposure to a pet grooming environment with varying noise levels, pet hair, and some mechanical equipment.
  • Handling live animals is a regular part of this job.
