JOB SUMMARY

The Post-Doctoral Psychology Resident is a full-time clinical staff person. It is a one-year (12 months) clinical position. This candidate provides direct clinical services including but not limited to individual, family, and group therapy, crisis intervention, consultation, and assessment to clients. This candidate is a member of a clinical team of psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, social workers, nurses, Case Managers, Care Coordinators, and Recovery Support Specialists.

Ongoing employment beyond the initial 1-year position may be considered, pending open positions within the agency. When eligible, all unlicensed clinical staff are expected to obtain licensure to be considered for ongoing employment at The Village.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Post-Doctoral Psychology Resident is hired for a one year (12 months), full-time position in fulfillment of the experience requirement for licensure as a psychologist in CT. Over the course of the year, Post- Doctoral Psychology clinician will obtain experience providing clinical psychological services and will receive supervision by licensed psychologists.
2. Responsibilities may vary based on specific placement within the agency. Responsibilities, which are provided under the supervision of a licensed psychologist may include, but are not limited to:
1. Provides psychological and diagnostic assessment services and makes recommendations regarding diagnosis, treatment planning and implementation.
2. Provides direct clinical services including individual, family, and group therapy to adults.
3. Completes psychosocial, mental health and/or developmental assessments for adults
4. Completes clinical documentation and reports, and any other documentation and reports required by agency and program policies and funding sources accurately and on time.
5. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other community agencies and organizations in consultation with supervisor, in order to provide comprehensive and effective services for clients (i.e. schools, courts, hospitals, etc.).
6. Provides intra-agency psychological consultation services to staff, administrators, and/or programs.
7. Team with other program and agency staff to ensure integration of services and development of internal system of care.
8. Knowledge and implementation of program and agency policies and procedures.
9. Contributes to program functioning by assuming responsibility for special tasks or leadership in special projects as appropriate.
10. Contributes to agency organizational life by participating in agency wide task forces, committees or problem-solving teams as appropriate.
11. Contributes to agency visibility and development of community linkages by representing the Village in community groups or committees, as assigned.
12. Participates in psychology department meetings and activities, including developing and providing trainings within the agency and/or community, as requested, and providing supervised supervision for predoctoral interns, as assigned.
13. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Experience and Skills
EDUCATION

• Educational Requirements: Ph.D. or Psy. D. from clinical psychology APA approved program. Must have completed an APPIC or APA accredited doctoral internship.
• Experience Level: Must have significant clinical experience with populations served by the Village, and specialization desirable.
• Licensure Requirements: Post-doctoral psychology residents are expected to be working towards obtaining CT Psychologist Licensure over the 12 months of their tenure in this position.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Successful completion of practicum and internship experiences towards fulfillment of the requirements of a doctoral degree from an accredited institution.
• Experience working with urban, low income and/or ethnically diverse populations is highly desirable.
• Diagnostic expertise.
• Clinical intervention skills, with experience in empirically validated interventions, group therapy, and family therapy preferred.
• Strong computer and typing skills.
• Personal Characteristics: Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required; Ability to be a good team player and leader, and also to work independently. Ability to demonstrate flexibility in approach to job and others, to be insightful, self-reflecting, and aware of impact on others, to be patient and empathic, to show good judgment in pressured situations.
• Cultural Competency: Sensitivity to the impact of race, gender, sexuality, culture, language and spirituality on mental health treatment and youth required; Familiarity, sensitivity, and/or experience working with diverse populations; Bilingual/bicultural skills preferred.
