The Fullerton College Horticulture Department is a comprehensive, hands-on program serving a highly diverse student population interested in plant science, greenhouse and nursery production, landscape, and pest management. The department offers multiple certificate and degree pathways focused on applied skills and industry readiness. Our facilities include instructional greenhouses, shade structures, outdoor production areas, and a working nursery that supports active plant sales and regular community-focused events, making the program well known and engaged on campus and throughout the region. Job Description : JOB DESCRIPTION

Teach lecture and laboratory courses in ornamental horticulture, landscape management, nursery management, plant propagation, plant identification, landscape construction, landscape contracting, turf management, arboriculture, landscape irrigation, soil science, and related courses to a diverse student population.

Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.

Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.

Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.

Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.

Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.

Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.

Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and / or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students.

Work cooperatively with staff and students.

Evening and / or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Minimum Qualifications :

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment;
  • OR

  • Any associate degree AND six years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment;
  • OR

    Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.OR

    The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

    Desirable Qualifications :

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or related field.

    Coursework in plant identification, landscape irrigation, soils, plant propagation, integrated pest management, entomology, greenhouse and nursery production, or similar.

    College level teaching experience.

    Work experience in the Horticulture industry.

    Effective oral and written communication skills.

    Knowledge of urban agriculture and sustainable horticulture.

    Experience in emerging sustainable landscape practices.

    Expertise in culturally responsive teaching in horticulture, particularly as it relates to the relevance of horticulture to student’s lives, interest, and communities; demonstrated ability to address equity gaps of racially minoritized groups within horticulture.

    Initial salary placement will be determined by the Office of Human Resources in accordance with the faculty collective bargaining agreement and is not negotiable.
