Capital Projects Director
WSP is seeking an accomplished Capital Projects Director to support and expand our US Mining business. This position could work out of WSP's offices in Salt Lake City, UT; Reno, NV; Houston, TX; or Lakewood, CO. Other WSP office locations or remote options may be considered for an exceptional candidate.
This leadership role focuses on directing major capital projects across the mining sector, including planning, engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) assignments. The successful candidate will oversee complex project execution, serve as Project Director on large mining programs, and strengthen WSP's presence across the mining market.
Your Impact
- Lead, manage, and deliver major capital projects within the US mining industry, ensuring alignment with client business objectives, WSP standards, and industry best practices.
- Serve as Project Director for large-scale mining capital projects, providing strategic guidance, governance, and delivery oversight.
- Lead EPCM and IPD project delivery approaches, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure predictable cost, schedule, and performance outcomes.
- Drive business growth by identifying new opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and supporting strategic pursuits.
- Coordinate with WSP's global mining network to ensure consistency in project methodologies and leverage global expertise.
- Guide clients and internal teams through project development cycles, including execution planning, risk management, contracting strategy, and implementation.
- Promote WSP's reputation through industry engagement, conference participation, and thought leadership.
- Mentor and develop project managers and technical teams involved in major capital project delivery.
- Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical field.
- 20+ years of experience in mining, major capital project development, and engineering services.
- Demonstrated experience as a Project Director or senior leader responsible for executing large mining capital programs.
- Strong background in EPCM, IPD, and alternative delivery models for large capital projects.
- Deep knowledge of mining operations, processing facilities, and supporting infrastructure.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to varied audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, lead multidisciplinary teams, and manage competing priorities.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage staff, and effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exits.
- Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to travel within and outside the US as required by project and business development needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading multi-billion-dollar mining programs.
- Proven success developing execution plans, contracting strategies, and governance frameworks for major capital projects within the mining industry.
- Strong existing relationships with major mining companies across North America.
- Bilingual Spanish-English speaker, mining experience in Latin America

Compensation:
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $162,400 - $265,300
