Job Summary

Provide patient care independent of direct supervision in a hospital setting, as a significant part of daily duties & responsible for treatment of patients with life-threatening illness or injury, whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis and inducing and monitoring anesthesia. Under direction of the Small Animal Manager and the Radiation and Medical Oncology Service Chiefs, supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the Medical and Radiation Oncology Service staff to assure the service accomplishes its primary mission of providing excellent patient care, client and referring veterinarian service, professional student instruction and resident training. Responsible for inducing and monitoring anesthesia in critically ill patients. Provide patient care and client / referring veterinarian service. Provide instruction to professional students, interns, residents, clinicians and staff, in Medical and Radiation Oncology Safety and procedures. Coordinate the training and professional development of staff in the Medical and Radiation Oncology Service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position

• Current CA Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
• Experience recognizing staffing and time needs for a wide variety of veterinary procedures.
• Experience and ability to calculate drug dosages correctly.
• Skill and experience to recognize normal values of physiological vital functions in small and independently providing treatment to patients whose conditions are likely to change on a moment to moment basis.
• Skill and experience to operate basic anesthesia equipment i.e., anesthesia machines, and various monitoring and lab equipment independent of supervision.
• Interpersonal, oral and written communication and problem solving skills to interact professionally with a diverse group of people in include clients, clinicians, students and staff.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Salary or Pay Range : $33.33 / hr. - $59.48 / hr.

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
