Program Aide

Job Objective : Assists with operating the Corps' After School Program and Sports Programs.

Essential Functions :

Program Execution

• Assist with planning, creating and implementing activities
• Instruct and participate in program and sporting activities
• Provide youth supervision
• Maintain and administer program rules and policies
• Help plan, prepare and serve food and snack
• Provide child transportation using Salvation Army vehicles

Minimum Qualifications :

Education : High School diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary training in teaching, childhood development, mentoring, recreation and / sports preferred

Experience : Prior experience working with children in a structured setting

Certifications / Licenses : In-service training will be required

Skills / Abilities :

Supervisory Responsibility : Supervise volunteers as directed

Physical Requirements : Include actively participating in activities with children, standing for long periods of time; walking, running, bending, reaching; lifting up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel : None

Driving : Driving is required. This position requires a valid driver's license from the state in which the employee resides. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions : The work environment for this position includes classroom, gymnasium and outdoor environments; some full day hours will be required based on the Topeka School District calendar.
