Job Title: Survey Party Chief
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to fulfill the role of Survey Party Chief. The successful candidate will work closely with the survey party crew chief on diverse projects across South Carolina, including DOT, commercial, federal, government, industrial, power companies, and warehouses.
Responsibilities
Locate, review, and research job locations for identifying landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes affecting the survey.
Supervise the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate and organize work efforts.
Ensure high standards of work performance and derive necessary field calculations from completed work.
Oversee the maintenance of instruments and equipment.
Ensure collected data such as angles and distances are accurate and conform to regulations and standards.
Coordinate findings with engineering personnel, clients, and other parties involved in projects.
Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain necessary data.
Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
Maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.
Complete daily logs and expense reports.
Complete safety forms and ensure all crew members adhere to safety procedures.
Consult with computer operators and review the final production of work performed.
Essential Skills
Familiarity with commonly used surveying terms and the use and care of survey tools and field equipment.
Proficiency in operating survey equipment such as Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and various GPS methods.
Experience in surveying construction staking, boundary, and ALTA surveys.
Ability to lead a team of surveyors.
Competence in data collection using Total Station.
Ability to survey independently.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
3-5 years of experience as a party crew chief preferred, but candidates with less experience may be considered.
Technical skills including being process-oriented, analytical, methodical, and detail-oriented.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
Work Environment
The role involves some overnight travel and requires extensive walking outside throughout the year in varied terrains and extreme weather conditions. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM, with overtime depending on project load. Surveyors typically work 50-60 hours a week. The position requires reporting to the Charleston office daily to meet with the surveying team for project allocation. Approximately 50% travel is involved, and the technician must be willing to travel as needed. The position includes the benefit of taking the company truck home.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $33.00/hr.
