Full Time Equivalency: Temporary, Non-exempt, Full-time

Assignment Length: Temporary assignment of approximately 16 weeks (February-May 2026), dependent on staffing needs

Position Summary:

This role contributes to a safe, inclusive, and healing-centered environment where individuals and families can build on their strengths, increase stability, and pursue long-term wellbeing. The position supports program goals aligned with YWCA Utahs strategic direction and commitment to healing, safety, and community resilience. The position is a temporary Assistant Teacher, working to cover lunch breaks and planning times in all classrooms ages 6 months to 5 years old, which parental leave coverage for approximately 16 weeks, from February to May 22, 2026. The Assistant Teacher assists in planning and implementing educational and play-based childcare to ensure the health, safety, and enrichment of children from birth through age five. Based on program needs and performance, this position has the potential to transition into a permanent role.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist in planning, implementing and supervising infant/toddler/preschooler stimulation and educational activities in order to enhance their emotional and physical growth.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate care, comfort, nurturing and guidance to infants/toddlers/preschoolers in order to enhance their emotional and physical growth.
  • Assist children with acquisition of age-appropriate social skills.
  • Supervise and implement appropriate feeding schedules and individual maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of facility according with health and hygiene standards, including but not limited to the toileting area, toys, cots, sheets, diaper changing area and food service/preparation area.
  • Work with teaching team to create and maintain a cheerful, aesthetically pleasing child care environment that reflects the cultural diversity and interests of the children.
  • Share responsibilities for accurate record keeping, data collection, and anecdotal child reports in order to ensure coordinated departmental interventions.
  • Monitor emotional and physical health of children, report all cases of suspected child abuse and respond to emergencies as needed in order to protect children.
  • Maintain compliance to Child Care Licensing, Federal Food Program, NAEYC Accreditation and YWCA standards.
  • Assist Lead Teacher in preparation of materials of daily lesson plans, and alert director when supplies are running low or when toys or equipment are in need of repair.
  • Obtain and maintain adequate awareness and observance of appropriate developmental guidelines and techniques for behavior management in accordance with state licensing and NAEYC standards.

  1. Understand and follow all established organizational and program related policies, procedures, and protocols.
  2. Keep all necessary records to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with agency, contractual, and legal requirements. Records are expected to be complete, accurate, and timely.
  3. Satisfactorily perform all duties outlined in this job description.
  • Complete and maintain all training, certifications and licensing related to role, program licensing, and grant standards including but not limited to: CPR, First Aid, Food Handlers Permit.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, individual and/or group supervision, agency-wide staff and other training, as well as any other meetings and activities as requested.
  • Monitor campus security in collaboration with all staff to protect the safety and well-being of program participants, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a combined 5 or more years of education and experience:

  • 18 years of age. CDA preferred.
  • Experience working with children required.
  • An understanding of and agreement with YWCA Utahs mission, values and philosophy regarding the elimination of racism and empowerment of women.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours on a regular basis; some weekends and evenings are required.
  • Proficiency with general office duties, computer systems, and technology.
  • Skilled in establishing effective working relationships.
  • Ability to collaborate and invite collaboration.
  • Able to demonstrate skills in effective communication, conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Must be able to pass Department of Health and Human Services criminal background check, meet I-9 requirements, and, if driving agency vehicles, have a valid Utah drivers license, automobile insurance and motor vehicle record.



Physical/Sensory Demands

Work is generally performed in a safe office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit for long periods of time; use computer to enter data; use telephone to converse with customers and employees; walk and stand for long periods of time; perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement. Travel to attend conferences, training, outreach and other events occurs routinely.
