S&ME is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic entry-level Construction Materials Engineering Technician to become part of our Construction Services team in Charleston, South Carolina . Join S&ME today and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients!

What You Will Do:

• Plan and Specification Analysis: Review project details before site work; thoroughly document findings and test outcomes for construction materials.
• Metafield Application: Streamline data handling through field and lab information management systems.
• Tool Calibration and Care: Maintain precision of field and laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
• Regulatory Inspection Compliance: Conduct material testing and inspections per International Building Code (IBC) guidelines.
• Collaborative Reporting: Communicate with supervisors, contractors, and clients to update project status and resolve issues.

Who You Are:

• You have a High School diploma/GED
• You have 0-2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
• You have One(1) or more active certifications, a plus: American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils) DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
• You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
• You have math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

• Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
• Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
• Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
