Key Responsibilities

Specimen Receiving

• Open and sort daily specimen deliveries
• Assure that tests orders are entered into the LIMS systems accurately
• Assure that specimen is properly labeled and the information matches what is written on the test order (requisition).
• Assign unique identifiers to each sample and test requisition
• Assure that specimen is stored properly
• Confirm that client, patient and specimen information is present and meets regulatory requirements and specific test requirements.
• Identify any problems associated with specimen, patient or doctor identification and take appropriate action.
• Decontaminate work surfaces and maintain cleanliness
• Properly dispose of trash and biohazardous waste
• Organize and maintain storage and workspace areas
• Assist laboratory technicians as needed
• Actively carry out the direction and instruction given by the accessioning manager

Data Entry

• Enter data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) with precision
• Audit for accuracy and address any discrepancies or missing information
• Balance financials and audit daily entries
• Review error reports and input corrections
• Scan requisitions and verify payments
• Prepare and manage source documentation
• Respond to internal inquiries about entered data
• Support the specimen receiving process as needed

What We're Looking For

• High School diploma or GED required; lab or science background preferred
• 2+ years of experience in medical/clinical data entry preferred
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology and office procedures
• Typing speed of 40+ WPM with 97% accuracy (typing test required)
• A solid knowledge of general windows-based computer software applications.
• Proficiency with keyboards and numeric keypads
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to recognize and resolve recurring problems.
• Ability to read/write simple correspondence and follow written instructions
• Must have strong attention to detail and be organized.
• Must be able to understand and follow procedures.
• Ability to establish priorities
• Physically able to kneel, crouch, use a step stool, and lift/move up to 25 lbs
• Must have strong close and color vision
• Willingness to work overtime as business needs require
