Overview
The Associate Manager, Educator Development is a key contributor to the design, planning, and execution of the Center for Educators and Schools’ annual slate of professional learning opportunities for K–12 educators. This role leads complex projects, manages stakeholder relationships, and ensures smooth operational delivery of high-quality programming aligned with Library and CES strategic priorities. The Associate Manager collaborates closely with internal and external partners, including authors, curators, scholars, branch staff, special guests and other cultural organizations, to co-create impactful professional learning experiences that leverage NYPL resources, collections, and exhibitions. The role requires strong judgment, collaborative leadership, and the ability to manage multiple projects from concept through evaluation. We are looking for someone we can count on to:
Own:
  • The full lifecycle of selected educator programs and initiatives, including planning, design, logistics, budgeting, contracting, and communications
  • Key external partnerships and cross-departmental collaborations
  • Evaluation and continuous improvement of educator offerings
Teach:
  • High-quality virtual and in-person professional learning experiences that center inclusive, relevant, and educator-informed practices.
  • Training and guidance to internal staff, contract workers, volunteers and other project contributors to ensure consistent program delivery, CES workflows, and educator-centered approaches to professional learning
Learn:
  • CES instructional frameworks, NYPL collections and digital tools, and NYC Public Schools landscapes
  • Project management systems and program evaluation methods that strengthen CES’s impact
Improve:
  • Program operations, workflows, and educator engagement strategies
  • Community and partner relationships that expand CES’s reach and relevance
Some expectations for this role are that within: 1 month, this person will:
  • Become familiar with NYPL initiatives, CES priorities, annual programming plans, and key operational workflows
  • Begin managing existing educator workshops and responding to educator inquiries
  • Cultivate productive working relationships with the CES team and core library partners
3 months, this person will:
  • Independently manage assigned educator programs from scheduling through delivery
  • Build and maintain communication plans for educator communities and other program partners
  • Lead select workshop facilitation and manage event logistics with limited guidance
6 months and beyond, this person will:
  • Serve as a strategic contributor to the annual programming slate
  • Lead high-visibility partnership initiatives and represent CES in collaborations
  • Track and manage budgets, contracts, reporting, and evaluation for major projects
  • Contribute to long-range planning and goals for educator engagement and program growth
Responsibilities
  • Develop, plan, and implement educator professional learning programs (virtual, in-person, and hybrid)
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and represent NYPL/CES in cross-departmental and external collaborations
  • Lead special projects that require independent decision-making, research, and problem-solving
  • Oversee contracting, program budgeting, scheduling, and vendor/staff coordination
  • Ensure accurate records and data reporting for credit-bearing programs and institutional reporting
  • Design and deliver professional learning sessions in alignment with CES instructional values
  • Track program outcomes, solicit educator feedback, and drive continuous improvement
  • Support strategic communications and community-building with educators
  • Provide guidance to Educator Development Specialists, presenters, and temporary/seasonal staff supporting programs
  • Leads cross-departmental working teams on specific projects or initiatives
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Education, Experience & Skills

Required Education & Certifications
  • Master’s Degree in Education, Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, History, STEM Education, or related field required
Required Experience
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in education, school library, museum, or cultural institution settings, with a strong understanding of educator needs and classroom practice
  • 2+ years of experience developing and facilitating professional learning for K–12 educators
Required Skills
  • Ability to manage projects and partnerships involving multiple stakeholders and external collaborators
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and partnership-building skills
  • Demonstrated project management ability and balancing multiple complex projects
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with diverse teams
  • Budget tracking and contract coordination experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with the NYC Public Schools context and educator needs
  • Knowledge of inclusive, equity-focused educational practices
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office and Apple iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote)
