Overview
Im partnering with a high-growth, NASDAQ-listed biopharmaceutical company that has scaled from ~200 to ~700 employees and is expanding globally (new product launches, EU entry, increasing transfer-pricing complexity). They are bringing Tax in-house after years of outsourcing and are hiring a Director of Tax to fully own all tax strategy, provision, compliance, and planning.
This is a critical, high-visibility role reporting directly to the VP Corporate Controller.
Why This Role Exists
The company historically outsourced tax to Deloitte. As the business has expanded internationally, tax complexity has grown significantly. The prior CAO handled tax for ~5 years but moved into a new rolenow the Controller needs a true in-house expert.
This Director will be the go-to tax leader , both strategic and hands-on.
What Youll Own
Full ownership of ASC 740 and quarterly / annual tax provision
Federal, state, local, and international tax compliance
Transfer pricing , entity structuring, and tax planning for EU expansion
Building a functioning VAT process (current workflow needs a full redesign)
Managing all external firms + cost-benefit decisions on insourcing vs outsourcing
Designing tax processes, controls, and SOX compliance
Cross-functional partnership with Legal, Finance, Market Access, and Manufacturing
Ability to roll up sleeves
Ideal Background
Must-Haves :
Strong ASC 740 experience
Ability to operate independently (team of one)
Executive presence + polished communication skills
Public-company experience (biotech preferred, but open to SaaS, Manufacturing, Retail, Semiconductor, etc.)
Hands-on mentality not a delegator-only profile

Biotech / biopharma experience
R&D credit exposure
Workplace Structure
Hybrid, 3 days onsite (company standard)
Reports directly to the VP Corporate Controller
Long-term plan is an IC role (no guaranteed team build-out)
