Major Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Uphold SmartBank Core Values & Core Purpose

  • Review, analyze, and interpret personal tax returns, W-2s, paystubs, bank statements, account statements and other financial documents to determine accurate qualifying income.
  • Assess overall creditworthiness by calculating debt-to-income ratios, evaluating repayment ability, and identifying any risk factors.
  • Underwrite consumer loan requests in accordance with internal product guidelines and loan policy.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local banking and industry related laws and regulations including the Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation B, FCRA, ECOA, HMDA and other relevant guidance.
  • Document underwriting decisions clearly and thoroughly while maintaining a high level of accuracy and consistency.
  • Work jointly with loan officers and all other bank staff across the geographic footprint to gather needed documentation and provide timely credit decisions.
  • Contribute to continual process improvement by identifying opportunities for efficiency, quality, and risk mitigation.
  • Works with SmartBank's compliance personnel to ensure proper documentation of consumer loan decisions.
  • Compile reports regarding finance and credit data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Position Requirements and Qualifications :

    Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field such as business or finance
  • Two or more years of consumer loan underwriting experience preferred

    • Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates) :

  • None

    • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Must be capable of handling confidential information in a trustworthy manner.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Detail oriented and ability to function in a team environment
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize daily workflow.
  • Ability to apply knowledge and sound judgment in decision-making using established guidelines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient level of computer competency including Microsoft Windows (Word, Excel, Outlook), and typing.
  • Experience with nCino platform preferred.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain a positive attitude.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Able to maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Willing to accept new ideas and methods and be agreeable to change

    • Work Conditions :

  • May be required to travel to training sessions or meetings.
  • Extended hours will be required as needed.
