Now is the perfect time to take action-the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), under U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), is hiring for full-time entry-level Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) positions.

Salary and Benefits

As a newly appointed Border Patrol Agent, your annual base salary will range based on your grade level:

• GL-5/GL-7: $49,739 - $89,518 per year

Compensation may vary by duty location due to higher locality pay for federal law enforcement in certain areas. Eligible Border Patrol Agents may also receive additional compensation of up to 25% per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. As a career ladder position, you will progress through grade levels GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12. Promotion to the next level occurs automatically after completing 52 weeks in each grade.

Border Patrol Agents are entitled to a full range of federal benefits, including health and dental insurance, generous leave programs, and participation in a retirement plan similar to a ROTH 401(k).

Recruitment Incentive

Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may be eligible for up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives: $10,000 payable upon completing the Border Patrol Academy, and an additional $10,000 for accepting a prioritized location.

Retention Incentive

Agents may also qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives over the first four years of service.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Border Patrol Agent, you will play a vital role in our mission to protect the American populace by securing our borders and deterring illegal activities. Your contributions as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) are invaluable.

Typical tasks include:

• Monitoring and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration laws and inspecting their documents and belongings.
• Preventing the unauthorized entry of individuals and apprehending smugglers through surveillance and covert operations.
• Interpreting physical evidence related to illegal entries.
• Conducting patrols, including traffic checks and city patrols.
• Utilizing various government assets, such as vehicles and ATVs, to patrol the international border and coastal areas.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GL-5 level, you need:

• One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making skills and the ability to handle stressful situations, or
• A bachelor's degree, or
• A combination of relevant experience and education.

To qualify for the GL-7 level, you need:

• One year of specialized experience showcasing skills in law enforcement matters and decision-making involving firearms, or
• A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, or
• A combination of both experience and education.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must be U.S. citizens, have resided primarily in the U.S. for three of the past five years, and be under the age of 40 at the time of selection, unless exempted by prior federal law enforcement service.
