Description : JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Manager of Activities and Social Work in collaboration with the Director of Nursing, the Activity Assistant will assist in carrying out a program of activities that cover spiritual development, recreation, diversion, and intellectual education for residents as integral parts of patient care in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies, and procedures. Communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. The position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
- Coordinates and facilitates activity programs for Care Center and swing bed residents.
- Encourage all patients, including the room-bound, to attend scheduled activities in the Care Center activity room and the lobby.
- Carries out scheduling activities in the absence of the Activities and Social Work Manager as requested and instructed by the Activity Coordinator.
- Plans safe, efficient, and economical activities while meeting TJC and other relevant standards.
- Assesses resident activity needs and maintains documentation in the Activity Assistant’s Log—records residents’ responses to activities.
- Sees that quality activities are given to each resident by care center policy and procedure and safety policy and procedure.
- Participates in the inventory process, controlling waste and abuse, and informs the Manager of Activities and Social Work of equipment and supply needs.
- Respect residents’ privacy, maintain constant vigilance over residents and take necessary safety precautions.
- Maintains activity area in a neat, orderly manner with clear walk areas.
- Responsible for Maintaining a good working relationship with other departments, community groups, and outside agencies.
- Participates in continuing education and in-service training.
- Ensures adherence to proper infection control, OSHA, and safety standards.
- Perform other duties as needed, required, or requested.
Requirements :
Minimum Level of Education : Education level equivalent to completion of High School.
Formal Training : None
Licensure, Certification, Registration : None
Work Experience : One to three months experience in healthcare or related industry, and / or training.
Computer Skills : Computer literacy with the capability to effectively use Microsoft computer software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
