Senior Flight Test Engineer

PRIMARY PURPOSE

CNA is hiring for the role of Senior Flight Test Engineer. This role is located in-person at Edwards Air Force Base in California. This position is part of the Advanced Technology Assessments (ATA) Division. ATA provides test data and analysis that evaluates the military utility and efficacy of emerging defense technologies and prototypes, operational test and evaluation of DOW programs of record, and tactics development and resourcing decisions for existing naval aircraft. Analyses from ATA help the military services make data-informed resourcing, training, and modernization decisions for new and existing defense technologies, with a focus on naval aircraft. Our research supports defense innovation programs to ensure operational effectiveness and lethality, and to maintain the technological superiority of US military forces. ATA contributes independent analyses to the testing of new aviation systems and the development of tactics to optimize the effectiveness of existing aircraft.

The Senior Flight Test Engineer will work with government engineers and project officers in F-35 flight test and evaluation, with a focus on mission systems. They will be responsible for test planning, supporting test flight briefings / debriefings, providing real time control room monitoring during test execution, coordination of data acquisition, post-test reporting, and support to mission data analysis and anomaly resolution efforts.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND / OR DUTIES

• Review and evaluate test requirements to develop flight test plans.
• Conduct and lead execution of flight missions.
• Maintain metrics and report on status of testing. Conduct initial analysis of flight test results and hand-off data and reported issues for further analysis.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and test operations personnel in the design and execution of tests, analysis of data, and reporting of results, including the interpretation of the significance of the findings.
• Draft reports and technical papers on the results of developmental and / or experimental flight testing of the aircraft. Compile, reduce, format, analyze and present test data.
• Provide subject matter expert support to sponsors, project directors, Research Program Directors, and the Division Vice President on issues related to leadership, personnel and readiness.
• Work independently and proactively within scope of assigned tasks, coordinating directly with government leadership to accomplish assigned missions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

CNA follows a broad band compensation framework that considers a range of criteria in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience; degree, certifications, other business and organizational needs. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $120K - $150K.
