How you'll play:
The Design Director is responsible for management of multiple divisions and overseeing the development process while maintaining the brand’s high level of quality and premium outlook. They work collaboratively with the design team to create and execute seasonally relevant product lines across multiple apparel categories. The Design Director must have apparel design experience, technical knowledge, the ability to effectively manage and develop design team members, along with strong aesthetic, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Uphold integrity of Hanna Andersson’s timeless design and high-quality execution through the entire development process, from concept through commercialization.
- Lead design development and own the direction of key silhouettes, fabrics, and trends for the season.
- Actively bring newness and innovation to key apparel categories that is in line with the Hanna Andersson brand aesthetic.
- Research and evaluate competition and market trends.
- Collaborate with VP and Surface Design Director on concept, color, print and graphic direction.
- Guide designers in merchandising a large assortment with a focus on print and color.
- Work cross-divisionally to ensure cohesion between divisions and create shared brand stories across the assortment.
- Own merchandise presentations of proposed designs, including assortment boards and visuals to communicate key looks and product stories.
- Support VP to grow key categories into larger franchises by expanding upon styles that has been historically successful.
- Partner with fabric team to determine fabric needs, selection, and approvals.
- Communicate with PD, vendor and sourcing partners regarding product development issues and requests.
- Partner with cross-functional team to achieve AUC goals, deliver on design intent and sales growth strategies.
- Attend cross-functional meetings and fittings.
- Ensure all development calendar deadlines are met.
- Manage a small design team; delegate responsibilities and tasks, provide feedback and training as needed.

This position has an annual base salary range of $140,000-155,000. This listed base salary range is a good faith representation of the base salary range for this position. However, location, unique skills and/or exceptional experience may result in an offer outside of the stated range.
What you'll bring:
- 10+ years of Apparel Design experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field of study.
- Excellent eye for color, graphics, print and pattern; able to translate trends into brand aesthetic.
- Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to form partnerships to collaborate, influence and drive change.
- Understanding of materials, fabrics, technical fabrics, and trims required.
- Adobe Illustrator proficiency; Photoshop and PLM system experience a plus.
- A high-energy team player with a can-do attitude willing to learn and grow with the company.
- Solution oriented, critical thinker with ability to balance multiple projects and priorities.
- Flexible and adaptable to work in a highly collaborative environment.
- Ability to effectively manage and develop design team members.
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate work under tight deadlines.
