Job Summary :

Operate heavy equipment and instruments necessary for the maintenance of water lines and appurtenances.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills :

  • Experience with proper operation of rubber-tire and track backhoes, front end loaders, and knuckle cranes.
  • 2+ years' experience in utility or water construction methods and water systems desired;
  • Knowledge of equipment operation, basic maintenance and repair; map reading, confined space entry, trench safety, and traffic control;
  • Current Class A CDL driver's license and good driving record;
  • Previous experience supervising or acting as a lead worker desirable.

Essential Functions :

  • Monitor objects for compliance with operating or safety standards;
  • Use common hand tools such as hammer, saw, screwdriver or similar tools;
  • Work independently and in a crew situation;
  • Follow and implement safety practices and procedures;
  • Obtain Colorado Class 2 Water Distribution Operators Certification.

    • Work Environment :

  • Works in all weather conditions;
  • Works in dust, dirt, and fumes from heavy machinery;
  • Operates equipment in heavy traffic conditions

    • Physical Requirements :

  • Vision enough to operate a variety of equipment in traffic and at the work site.
  • Make controlled muscular movements to adjust the position of a control mechanism (e.g. operating levers / pedals);
  • Coordinates the movements of more than one limb simultaneously (e.g. operating clutch and accelerator);
  • Mobility enough to access and operate equipment used in street construction and maintenance.
  • Communication skills enough to interpret work assignments and convey information to the public and co-workers.
  • Manual dexterity enough to replace machinery parts and manipulate small objects.
