Sitter

Overview

We are seeking a Sitter , also referred to as a Patient Observer or Patient Care Assistant (PCA) . The Sitter in our hospital provides continuous one-on-one observation and support to patients who require close monitoring to ensure their safety. Sitters do not perform clinical procedures but play a vital role in patient safety and support, especially for patients with cognitive impairments, delirium, or high fall risk.

Shift’s Available: Days

Employment Type : Full Time

Hours: 12 -hour shifts – 7:00am - 7:00pm

Location: Dallas Regional Medical Center – Mesquite, TX

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

• Continuously observes patients who are at risk of harming themselves or others, such as those who are confused, agitated, or medically unstable

• Ensures patient safety by preventing falls, wandering, or removing medical devices like IV lines or catheters

• Provides companionship and reassurance to help reduce patient anxiety and agitation

• Communicates any changes in patient behavior or condition promptly to nursing staff or the healthcare team

• Assists with non-clinical needs such as helping patients with basic comfort measures or calling for assistance

• Helps maintain a calm and safe environment for both the patient and staff

Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.

• Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing.

• Within 90 days be eligible to participate in a C.N.A. Training program.

• BLS (AHA) certification required.
