What We Are Looking For :

We are seeking an experienced MS SQL Solutions Architect Consultant to lead the resolution of long-standing performance issues in a 20-year-old brokerage trading platform which supports low latency and high throughput trades. The system has minimal documentation and testing, making it crucial for the ideal candidate to understand the intricacies of such legacy platforms and diagnose the root causes of deadlocks and low performance under specific loads. The candidate will collaborate closely with internal SQL Architects, DBAs, and SMEs to understand the system and devise a plan to improve its performance. This engagement requires deep technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and hands-on leadership to enhance the platform’s efficiency. This role requires a highly skilled, self-driven consultant who can quickly diagnose issues, devise a performance optimization strategy, and execute it with precision to improve our clients brokerage trading platform’s efficiency.

What You’ll Be Doing :

  • Performance Troubleshooting : Lead efforts to diagnose and resolve long-standing SQL Server performance issues such as deadlocks, excessive locking, slow queries, and bottlenecks
  • System Analysis : Conduct a thorough analysis of the legacy brokerage trading platform with minimal existing documentation to identify gaps in code and database structures that impact performance
  • Collaborative Planning : Work closely with SQL Architects, DBAs, and subject matter experts to gain insights into the system and gather relevant performance data
  • Optimization Strategy : Develop a clear and actionable plan for optimizing the platform, focusing on SQL Server tuning, query optimization, and addressing code inefficiencies in C++ / C# applications
  • Implementation : Lead the execution of the performance optimization plan, collaborating with the internal team to make the system scalable and performant under high loads
  • Knowledge Transfer : Provide clear documentation of the changes and mentor the internal team to ensure sustainable improvements going forward

    • Skills & Qualifications :

  • Proven experience as an MS SQL Solutions Architect with a focus on performance tuning and optimization
  • Deep understanding of brokerage trading platforms and the specific challenges posed by legacy systems
  • Expertise in SQL Server performance tuning, resolving deadlocks, optimizing slow queries, and addressing excessive locking and blocking
  • Proficient in analyzing and optimizing C++ and C# applications interacting with SQL databases
  • Strong ability to work with minimal documentation and make sense of complex, undocumented systems
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including SQL Architects, DBAs, and SMEs to diagnose and resolve performance issues
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose performance gaps and devise targeted solutions
  • Hands-on experience with database design, query optimization, indexing strategies, and partitioning
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to lead and mentor teams, ensuring successful knowledge transfer

    • Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience

  • Mastery in MS SQL Server performance tuning, optimizing SQL code
